USE OF “DEAFBLIND” VERSUS “DEAF-BLIND”

In October 2023, the Florida & Virgin Islands (FAVI) Deaf-Blind Collaborative became the FAVI DeafBlind Collaborative.

The terms DeafBlind and deaflindness, without a hyphen, are accepted usage in both the United States and Europe.

This change emphasizes that being DeafBlind means more than the addition of deafness and blindness.

You will begin to notice DeafBlind and deafblindness on many of our website pages, and on new or updated products.
You may still see the terms “deaf-blind” and “deaf-blindness” in documents and resources that were created in the past.
Archived documents will reflect the terminology used at the time they were published.
